New auditions for the Children's Chorus and Youth Chorus of VOCI, September 2010 to May 2011, will be held on Saturday, August 21st in Cable Recital Hall in the Cultural Center for the Arts, 1001 N. Market Ave. in Canton. Auditions for the Children's Chorus and Youth Chorus of VOCI are non-threatening, low- anxiety tryouts. Children do not have to prepare a musical selection for this audition. Parents may be present during the audition. Our mission is to provide the highest quality choral experience possible for Stark County students in grades 3-8. We bring together talented boy and girl singers, who learn a challenging musical repertoire, vocal skills appropriate to their age, self-discipline, musicianship, self-confidence and a professional demeanor.
Our music director is Christine Allison. She graduated from Mount Union College with Bachelor of Music (vocal performance) and Bachelor of Music Education degrees. She has worked with children and youth for many years. She brings a dynamic and diverse approach to her teaching and directing and is implementing a program designed to educate singers to their best potential. Our accompanist Sandy Simpson, a music teacher in the Plain Local school system, brings a wealth of teaching and playing experience to the ensemble.
Children's Chorus and Youth Chorus singers have the opportunity to extend their musical experiences outside the school venue. They were invited to perform at the Children in Harmony Choral Festival at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida on May 25–29, 2005. This past year, the chorus participated in Christmas in Candy Cane Land and a christmas concert at the Arts and Education Center. They were also featured in The Works of John Rutter concert in March. Their final spring concert, All Nature Sings, was at Trinity United Church of Christ.
The Children's Chorus and Youth Chorus of VOCI has grown into a proven successful organization. The Children's Chorus (3rd and 4th grade) rehearses from 5:00 to 5:45 Monday evenings and the Youth Chorus (5th through 8th grade) rehearses from 5:45 to 7:00 pm. The annual tuition for the chorus is $250. There is a $10 audition fee for new choristers, which is applied to their tuition. In addition to the weekly vocal rehearsal in Cable Recital Hall, the tuition covers the use of music and a golf shirt with chorus logo printed on it. Limited partial scholarships are available based on need. Our choristers represent public and private schools and several members are home schooled. Physically challenged students are also welcome to participate in our program.
This invitation is extended to new children with a love for music and the enthusiasm to sing and perform. This certainly includes “beginner” and experienced singers, as all children have potential and a willingness to work and grow! We hope this flier will encourage you to audition for this challenging and exciting group. For further information contact the business at 330-455-1000.
