New auditions for the Canton Children's Chorus spring season will be held on December 28, 2009 in Cable Recital Hall in the Cultural Center for the Arts, 1001 N. Market Ave. in Canton. Auditions for the Canton Children’s Chorus (CCC) are non-threatening, low- anxiety tryouts. Children do not have to prepare a musical selection for this audition. Parents may be present during the audition. Our mission is to provide the highest quality choral experience possible for Stark County students in grades 3-8. We bring together talented boy and girl singers, who learn a challenging musical repertoire, vocal skills appropriate to their age, self-discipline, musicianship, self-confidence and a professional demeanor.

Our music director is Christine Allison. She graduated from Mount Union College with Bachelor of Music (vocal performance) and Bachelor of Music Education degrees. She has worked with children and youth for many years. She brings a dynamic and diverse approach to her teaching and directing. and is implementing a new program designed to educate singers to their best potential. Our accompanist Sandy Simpson, a music teacher in the Plain Local school system, brings a wealth of teaching and playing experience to the ensemble.

CCC singers have the opportunity to extend their musical experiences outside the school venue. CCC was invited to perform at the Children in Harmony Choral Festival at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida May 25–29, 2005. This past year, the chorus participated in Christmas in Candy Cane LandChristmas in Candy Land at  the Great Court of the Cultural Center for the Arts. The CCC was also featured in the KIMONO Concert in March. Their final Spring Concert was May 3 and May 4: one in Akron and one in Canton.

CCC has grown into a proven successful organization, which is sponsored by VOCI, Voices of Canton, Inc. The chorus is divided into two rehearsing groups; 3rd and 4th grade and 5th through 8th grade. The annual tuition for the chorus is $250. There is a $10 audition fee for new choristers, which is applied to their tuition. In addition to the weekly vocal rehearsal in Cable Recital, the tuition covers the use of music, concert attire and a CCC golf shirt with the Canton Children’s Chorus logo printed on it. Limited partial scholarships are available based on need. Our choristers represent public and private schools and several members are home schooled. Physically challenged students are also welcome to participate in our program.

This invitation is extended to new children with a love for music and the enthusiasm to sing and perform. This certainly includes “beginner” and experienced singers, as all children have potential and a willingness to work and grow!  We encourage you to audition for this challenging and exciting group. The next auditions will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009. If you wish to schedule an audition time, please call the Voices of Canton business office at 330.455.1000.
