VOCI Scholarship Awards
2009 - 2010
Winners of seven vocal music scholarships given jointly by Voices of Canton Inc. and the Women's Committee of Voices of Canton for the 2009-2010 school year were announced by judges Dr. David Donelson, Laurel Hines Seeds and Ann Usher.
Stephen G. Sanders received a $1,000 college scholarship for a graduating high school student. He is studying for a degree in Music Ministry. Stephen will be a freshman at Malone University this fall. He is the son of David and Hazel Sanders of Massillon.
Abigail Krawson received a $1,000 college scholarship for a student studying for degree in vocal music at the undergraduate or graduate level. She is a recent graduate of Bowling Green State University and will be pursuing a Master of Music in Performance at New England Conservatory in the fall. She is the daughter of Stanley and Saundra Krawson of Canton.
The Floyd W. Shore scholarship of $500 for private vocal lessons to a current member of VOCI -Voices of Canton, the elite choral group at the Cultural Center for the Arts, was awarded to soprano Aleta Killian.
The Stephen Dannemiller college scholarship of $500 to a student studying for an undergraduate degree in vocal music was given to Brittany J. Cary. She will be a senior at The Boston Conservatory of Music majoring in Vocal Performance, Opera Emphasis. She is the daughter of Joel and Lisa Cary of Canton.
The Brian Fitzsimmons college scholarship of $500 to an undergraduate student participating in vocal music at any Ohio college was awarded to Michael Wiley. The son of Deborah Wiley, Michael will be a senior at Kent State University working toward a degree in Music Education.
Kathleen A. Bachtel, a senior at Washington High School and daughter of Michael and Jennifer Bachtel, received a $400 scholarship for private vocal lessons to a high school student.
Michael Allen received a scholarship for private vocal lessons to an adult who has not pursued a degree in vocal music. He is also a singing member of VOCI -Voices of Canton.
The awards were held Sunday, June 8, 2009 in Cable Recital Hall in the Cultural Center for the Arts.
